LPR sponsoring spouse - Nebraska Service Center

Hello Forum Members,

I am a LPR and recently got married to a foreign national living outside U.S.

I am still a few years away from my citizenship. I believe I may petition for LPR for a spouse using I-130 (Petition for Alien Relative - Permanent resident filing for a spouse or child under 21 category); and am also given to understand that normally the processing time for such an application is about 5 years.

However, in looking at the processing times of the Service Centers on the USCIS page, I noticed that the Nebraska Center has a processing time of only 5 months for such an application.

1. If anyone has filed this type of petition in NSC recently, please share your experience.
2. I believe I would have to move to one of the states that fall under the NSC since currently I am not in their jurisdiction. After I move to one of the NSC states, would I be able to file this petition immediately or would I have to wait for some stipulatory time before filing?

Thanks.

Rgds.

Processing time is only one part of the equation. Even if they approve the I-130 in 2 days, it is still necessary to wait for the relevant cutoff date as listed in the visa bulletin in order to complete the process. That takes about 4-5 years for family-based preference 2A.
