Lou Dobbs tirade...

Nice, I am also sick of watching the same recording of people again and again in Indian call center, he should get a new clip....:)
How about some nice chics from Delhi/Mumbai and Bangalore, that might increase his viewership.

punch line

But in the past year his (lou dobbs) audience has sunk back 20% to 532,000. If he's not careful, CNN will replace his show with a low-budget production from Shanghai.

I liked the punch line :)

Lou once left (or was he fired? ) CNN to start his own company during the dot com boom ! I guess he didn't think about outsourcing and hence went out of business !! lol :D

I guess he just wants the ratings with respect to the more so called nationalist Fox News....

That maynot happen, anytime soon.

Guess he is out of luck, in improving the viewership.

Cash position of big companies becomes very fat, no doubt, due to outsourcing. The creation of jobs in US after outsourcing are not those which were lost. This is a silent killer of few skills in USA. At one stage after few years, you will not find good manufacturing technicians, IT programmers due to out-sourcing jobs to China and India.

Afterall, Lou Dobbs cautions everyone not to be greedy and kill many jobs and skills. At one stage, USA will have designers, scientists, sellers and distributors only. No one needed to execute work or services.

Can the entire 300 million people of USA choose to become scientists and designers? Impossible.

This is a " self destruction" in the community and no corporate companies care about this. Several years back most of the countries had anti-dumping duty on many low cost products from countries like China to protect their interest.
Now you lose products and services too!!

In the name of free economy "genocide" is taking place.
There is a saying - "If going gets tough, tough gets going"- Where remains the question.

Welcome to globalization.

The US wanted other countries to open their economies so it could sell its goods and services. Multinationals are not loyal to any one country. For them, the world is a consumer. So they want to extend their market as far as possible.

Outsourcing kills local job market, but generates wealth elsewhere (India, China, et al). That in turn puts money in the hands of more consumers. For every one US programmer who has lost his job, 5 progammers in India get jobs. This means getting 5 consumers at the cost of losing one. Do the math there.

Excellent reply. How ever , for indians/chinese working here, outsourcing is a very complex issue to either support it or oppose it. On the one side (pro outsourcing people perspective) they argue that since America destroyed lot of local companies in those countries because of globalization, how can any one just oppose outsourcing without closing the world markets to American companies.
On the other hand, people like you(and to some extent me) feel that this outsourcing is slowly killing american jobs. If nothing is done to stop this outsourcing, i have no doubts that what you said above , is going to happen for real. Ofcourse, if that happens, these pro o/s people and perhaps you and me, will go back to our countries, perhaps not without much regrets. But i truly feel bad about those americans who don't have an option to go to other countries. I am not sure if o/s is going to create new jobs here. It will make only the companies more richer and they will invest more in other countries, not here. If they were to invest here, they would not have moved their jobs outside. Investment means creating jobs, nothing else.
But can we just rollback o/s and also globalization ? What will be the effetcs ? Rolling back the globalization will result in huge job losses in this country. Are you ready for that ?
That's why i said that O/S is such a complex thing to support or oppose.

Outsourcing is a very simple thing, I don't know why people cannot understand it easily. You do things that you are good at that makes cost sense and the rest you give it to others. If outsourcing is bad, then you have to produce the food, clothes and other things yourself. It doesn't make economic sense to ask a scientist/engineer to do agriculture.

The same thing happened when manufacturing moved from the US to other countries. The steel factory took a hit, but the displaced workers were later able to find out much better jobs.
