Lost receipt Number

My brother is an U.S. Citizen. i am not. He is also in the U.S. Army, still active. 4 years ago he filed a petition for my permanent residency here in the U.S. He has just told me after 2 tours of Iraq that he has lost documentations related to that petition including receipt numbers etc. Is it possible to use other documentations to retrieve the original petition, or is it now a lost cause and do we have to file a new petition? I am currently here on a student visa, which expires next June. What should we do?

When you call Customer Service I know there is a choice on the automated system for when you don't know your receipt number.....you can try that route. At least maybe you can find out if they have anything on file about you
