Hi,
I first sent my PP for H1B revalidation to St. Louis, got a 221(g) for my photograph. It took more than 3 months to get. I mailed end of October and received back end of Jan.
Then I sent my application along with recent photo to Washington on Jan 28th. They received on 2nd Feb. Finally they called me on 20th Feb and told that they received all my papers except PP. They also told that the envelope was cut, open & stapled when they received it. Though they sent back my paper with some relevant notes indicating that the PP was stolen from Mail, they were not very helpful in telling me where & how they received my mail on 2nd Feb and who handled it first.
I filed police report on 23rd. They just recorded my complaint and gave me a report. The officer who recorded my compliant told that they don't normally take any action on this.
I also filed a complaint in the post office from where I mailed. But don't have a hope to get my PP.
Now, I'm in the process of collecting all my documents to visit Indian consulate at Chicago and get duplicate one. Our consulate will take at least 3-6 months to give me the duplicate passport in lieu of lost/stolen passport. Of course, this duration may vary from case-to-case. But if I pay additional fee, then there is a possibility of getting short validity passport (valid for a year) on the same day.
Did anyone have any such experience?
My questions are:
1. Is it ok to get a short validity passport? or should I go for 10year valid passport?
2. My I-797 is valid till mid-2006, if I get a short validity passport, will I get my visa till end of I-797?
3. Is there a way I can get my stamping without going to India?
4. I also lost all my I-94 (the one I got at POE & the other one along with my latest I-797? How do I get duplicate I-94's?
5. Even If I go to India, how the case will be handled in Chennai consulate? Will they consider the truth in my case? Of course, I do have all my papers including latest pay stubs, W2, employer letter ect.,
5. I'm getting married soon, will this affect getting H4 for my wife?
6. Will this anyway affect my GC processing (planning to start ASAP).
Any help would be appreciated..
