Lost extension of stay approval letter

Hello:

My father got his stay extended during his last visit in 2004, but lost all paperwork from acknowledgement receipt to approval letter. We do not even have the case id to request a duplicate.

He applied for a new visitors visa in March 2006 at Madras consulate and got denied because he did not have an extension letter.

Has anyone had a similar case? Can we reapply with a strong petition from me and expect to get a visa at a different consulate. He is currently in Canada. Are there any chances of him getting a visitors visa from Canada?

Any advice will be appreciated.

B1/B2 rejected the first time but approved later

My Mom was in a similar situation. She has extended her stay in 1992 but lost proof of the approval. She was denied a visa in Nov. 2005. I tried a few diffirent routes to get a copy of the approval letter.

1) Freedom of Information Act - USCIS
2) Copy of approval letter - Form I824
3) Freedom of Information Act - US Customs and Border Protection

None of the above could locate any information related to my Mom. So I
sent a letter with information about my attempts including copies of receipts
and all correspondence with USCIS.

My Mom took that letter and went for an interview last week and her
visa got approved. Thatnk goodness .....

So there is hope. Be clear and organized in your letter and prepare your folks
with some points to talk about at the interview.
