I am working on a TN for a govt contractor for about 5 years. All of a sudden I was called into a meeting with the dept head and told that the legal dept. is raising issues because I am not a US citizen and dont have a green card. So in order to comply with export control law they will have to let me go.

I am a database administrator. Apparently an application that is suppose to go live next year will have contracts data which the company doesn't want a foreign national to see. And I understand that. However do I have any recourse?

I know that the company can apply for a export license for this situation.. not sure how big of pain is that to get...

wondering if anyone has any thoughts?

Unless you have a valid contract stating otherwise, you employer can terminate you for any reason other than that violating another employment law. I doubt that you qualify for any protection given the circumstances you mention.

Look for another job.
