Getting married to my girlfriend a US citizen next month. Currently on H1-B extension. Will apply for my EAD card as soon as I get married along with all the paper work to get green card.
Do I lose my H1-B status when I submit all the paperwork? Or can I still work with my same h1 employer (dont plan on changing) after I have applied for EAD which will take about 3 months to get. I hope I dont have to quit my job for 2-3 months till I get my EAD if for some reason I am left out of status.
Some body please clarify this for me.
Thank you..

I have EAD and my H1 is still valid.

According to my lawyer, your EAD status is effective only if you use it for employment (notifying the employer that you want to use the EAD instead of H1).

Tough I have EAD, my company renews my H1 extensions (8 th yeay extension).

You have two options:
#1. You continue to work with the same H1B sponsor and you can stay in the US after your marriage. (Best option)

#2. If you choose to terminate employment/H1B Visa, then you cannot stay in the country because then you would have filed for I-130 as the spouse of a US citizen.. (i think)

#3. You will have to apply for the K3 Visa... to get back into the country.
