Longer processing time for male than that of female applicant

My wife and I applied at the Nebrasca Service Center back in April 2006. Acknowledgement letter from USCIS shows that both of us have the same priority date in April – only day after they received our application. We received finger print appointment letters and had our finger printed at the same time in Minneapolis, MN.

It was after that we started to see delay for my case. Since then, my wife had her interview, and already received her oath ceremony appointment.

I have not heard anything since I have given my finger print back in June. I know only two months have passed since, but what wonders me how my wife’s application moved through so quickly.

Anyone has noticed similar situation? How long it takes to schedule interview now a days in MN?

Actually there have been multiple posts regarding precisely the same situation, myself included. The conventional wisdom is that the delay is due to the FBI name check, which could be indeed the case. However, this does not explain completely why only male applicants find themselves in this situation. Another theory of mine was that the delay may be due to Selective Service verification, although this theory does not seem to have gathered too many adherents in this forum.

For now, all I do is wait.

Namecheck

I do agree.

We applied for N-400 along with my wife in Feb 06.

My wife got citizenship and she also received the USA PP.

I am waiting for the "great...." Name Check" clearance. Infact I received "no record" on FOIP request which I initiated with FBI.

What I observed is: if we have any kind of citation (minor/major traffic ticket - which is either declared on N-400 application or omitted by accident) and the applicant's gender is male, then, there is a higher possibility of getting the "match" during name check scan.

Just include me too....right now my wife is on her way to the interview...

Maybe we should open a sticky thread on this issue (something like WWIWIWIFE - wife was interviewed while I wait indefinitely for ever)

Could this delay for male candidates be because of duplicate A numbers? Nobody seems to know about this clearly.

As far as my wife and my experiences went, there was no delay for male candidates... the wait for her oath letter was almost a month longer than mine.

For that reason I'm somewhat sceptical of repeated statements that males take longer to process than females. I expect the reason there are more male delays would be because there are more men listed in the FBI database, so more chance for a spurious hit during namecheck.

Boatbod - I think you just contradicted yourself :)

Neither your statement of your experience, nor those of the guys before you can be taken as statistically significant. So, if you leave that aside, then the statement you made that more males are in the database and therefore a male is more likely to get a spurious hit means that the chances of a male taking longer are higher... correct?
