Long Road to NIW Approval - Received Green Card

The following is a chronology of my events:
7/95 I-140 (NIW-employer sponsored) approved
8/95 Applied for I-485 and I-765(EAD)
10/95 Got laid off. My employer\'s attorney told me to go back to my home country. I contacted another attorney and he told me that I should stay in the US and he wrote a letter to INS explaining the situation and pointed to a ruling that the INS had made stating the for a NIW case, if the beneficiary\'s work will continue to be in the national interest, then it does not matter who is the petitioner - the employer or the beneficiary
10/95-98 Filed EAD extension three times and got approved
7/99 Filed for self petitoned NIW I-140. This application was the same as the previously approved employer petioned NIW I-140.
1/00 Had interview for I-485 at a regional office. INS Officer told me that my employer filed I-140 had been withdrawn by my previous employer. I was shocked. The INS officer told me that if my self petitioned NIW I-140 would be approved then they would grant me the green card.
5/00 Received a letter from INS asking for additional proof on 21 items in my self petioned NIW application. Note that the self petioned application was identical to the previously approved employer-petitoned NIW application. I was given 60 days to give proof on these 21 items.
7/00 Responded to INS\'s request. Sent in a box full of documentation as proof on the 21 items.
9/00 Self petitoned NIW I-140 approved
9/00 Attorney notofied the local INS officer about approval of self petitioned I-140 NIW.
12/00 Passport stamped.
1/01 Green card received

This has been a long and ardous journey to getting the green card. Hang in there and make sure you challenge companies attorneys when they give you advice. I have a recommendation for a great law firm in Orlando.
