hi. if my company has offices in chicago and los angeles, ca, will I be able to apply for from chicago and work in los angeles?

i saw some people posting like their company has offices in south dakota and PA, and they can apply LC from south dakota office and finally work for them from other state as consultant. what is this about?
 
You can apply from Chicago & work for now in LA as LC is for Future Employment. There will be few options after you get your LC.

1) You can get your self transferred to Chicago on paper for some time after you get your Green Card to fulfill the GC requirements (6 months is good enough)

2) Use AC-21 (Portability) after 6 months of I-140/I-485 and move your job location on GC process to LA as you will have the same job position / profile mentioned in LC.

3) Work in Chicago for few months after you get your Green Card.

2.Will DOL or BCIS check or audit people if they have been working at the location of LC application for 6 months?

AC-21 is American Competitiveness in the 21st Century Act ... In very simple language... The law provides flexibility to change job after 6 months of I-140/I-485 receipt date as long as new job is exactly same as mentioned in LC.

I do not have any information how BCIS makes sure that employee is working with sponsering organization but I suppose if one does't, there will be issues in Future GC applications from the sponser.
