Hi All
I am planning a trip to India in end of August for some religious thing which cannot be postponed. I am on EAD and have not applied for AP (485 RD Jan-2002) as my previous AP which I filed along with 485 was valid until April 2003, and I was too optimistic in getting my approval by then anways. Now I realized its just too foolish to wait for the approval any more with so many transfer/RFE etc. I was exploring the possibility to file for AP via mail at VSC but realized the times its taking coupled with other unforseen reasons I might not get it approved before I have to Travel.
So I am thinking of applying in person locally at Newark INS. Does anybody have any experience with the same Som points I need help on are:

1) Can I apply for me and my wife both or we both need to go?
2) Apart from original 485 Receipt plus EAD plus previous AP , photos, fee cheques
do I need to carry anything else?
3) How much do they take ??
4) As I have not real Emergency, could that be an issues?
5) When Should I file for it - somebody said <21 days of my planned dates?
6) Do I need to take my iterinary etc ??? As I won;t have one

Help is appreciated

Thanks

1) Can I apply for me and my wife both or we both need to go?
--No, Each applicant has to be there

2) Apart from original 485 Receipt plus EAD plus previous AP , photos, fee cheques do I need to carry anything else?
--Any document to prove the emergency.

3) How much do they take ??
--It depends on how much you give!!!!!!!!!!!!!

4) As I have not real Emergency, could that be an issues?
--Just claim that great great grandparents not doing fine!!!!!!!!!!!

5) When Should I file for it - somebody said <21 days of my planned dates?
--AP is issued in a day or with in a week

6) Do I need to take my iterinary etc ??? As I won;t have one
--Just block the air-ticket through a travel agent and print that itenary. You can claim that you bought e-ticket.

I had the same problem and my lawyer told me now its not possible to apply for AP in local office till your case is not transfeered. You have to send document saying you have emergency at India to VSC with AP receipt and they might do expedite processing. Thats what I am trying and I have not received my receipt yet(I applied on 30th June).

Once you get your receipt go to the local office and tell them that you have an emergency and request them to issue AP ASAP, most of the local office accept emergency AP.

Did anyone tried going to local office and got AP this year. I tried calling local office to inquire if this is possible and they said call Vermont Service center as they don't entertain any enquiry on AP at local office.
