Limit of GCs under process

Is there any limit on the processing of Green Card for the same person. For example: If a H1 visa holder is working for Company A and the same company has started the GC process. At the same time can Company B also start the GC process for him, as the GC is for future employment; OR is it a legal requirement that he had to join Company B and then only start GC process.
