Life after GC: Re-entry permit needed for 1 or 2 yrs!

I am applying for jobs in India but want to keep the GC alive (got passport stamped, not received the plastic card yet), but will need to go back to India for 1 or 2 years due to family reasons..What are the options without losing the GC? Gurus please advise!!

Practically none

To maintain your GC even if you have applied for re-entry permit you need to maintain permanancy in the country...

Even though there are risks of losing GC with a REP, maintain some money in US investments be it CDs (if risk averse), stocks or mutual funds, at least keep 1 bank account (make sure you can handle it from overseas) and make sure that you file your US tax returns. Before you leave, if you have a relative (or a friend), notify that to USPS. The above, in general, should be enough.
