Letters from Editors

Hi,

I've seen postings that suggest getting letters from journal editors regarding their journal impacts, worldwide circulations, etc. Could you please clearly clarify what should be mentioned in the letter? For example should it be like:

I'm Dr XX The Eitor in Chief for Journal of YY

Our focuse is on this and that and we have this much worldwide circulations and our impact factor is this.

I'm not clear how this should be written! Because I'm sure the editor will not write specific recommendation letter for me for example becaue I published one or two at his journal. and it doesnt make sense for the editor to explain the scientific value of his journal to a highschool graduate at CIS!!! So what should be written exactly?!!?

For example, I have this problem that I have no citations! I recently published 7 journal papers (6 first author, 1 second author). 3 of them just published (2-4 months ago), 4 InPress! So it will take quite a while to get citation on these papers! maybe yrs!!!!! so what is the solution!?

Please advise.

why would you want to do that?

You can get all of these information from third party souce. For example, you can get the impact factor of the journal and its rank (both overall and in its subgroup) from "Journal Citation Report". You can get its circulation from database such as WorldCat. These, in my opinion, are more effective than a letter from the editor.

Well Letters from editors (read sub-editor/co-editor/publishers/reviewer) will help in establishing the statement about the impact of the your published material.....A paper published in the editor's journal is a possible starting point for a request for such a letter. It will be easy if overall editors work is generally related to the field......
someone wrote earlier .....""On another note: I actually asked the editor of a journal I reviewed manuscripts for to write a letter to discuss my many excellent and important referee activities. Since my two I-140s got approved, I'm assuming such a letter could have only helped my case."""".............this is true when you are reviewing the manuscripts for journal house...
well............

you can ask letter ...tipical format will include 1. your introduction 2.If you are reviewer inform your identity 3.If you are author inform about the manuscript number/title/brief content. 4.right away show your intention about BCIS letter..5. Ask for journal impact/circulation numbers/publication history description. .....I agree you can get all this information online at many sites but saying that from editor's letter and relating that to your own paper thru citations or expected citations.....will be multi beneficial.....

I had letter from editor for my case stating both my reviewing abilities and publication....just plain statements....."" I am Editor/head of publication for XXX journal published from XXX publication house whcih has XXXX circluation in 10 different coutries and yearly XXX citations...........& This is to certify that Mr XXX is Reviewer for several publications from XXX publication house/jpurnal.he has also authored XXX numbers of manuscripts for our publication house which have made record citations in less than a year which is immensly impressive""

I will not say this as standard...it can be written better.....jus provide them with novel template they will help...............
