legal representation

Hi! One question about legal representation during the asylum application. Does it give you significant advantage if you have a legal counsel present during the asylum interview? I am asking because I am thinking about hiring a California attorney to represent me while I live in NY, therefore it does not seem likely that my attorney will be with me during the interview. Otherwise, anyone know any prominent attorneys in the east coast?

I took my lawyer to my interview. The interview officer was so rude to him and did not even let him talk for more than 2 minutes. These 2 minutes cost me $400 ( his fees for coming with me and dedicating the whole day). The idea of having a lawyer is good for preparing your application and for writing your personal statement. A lawyer is also good if God forbids, you are refeered to an immigration judge. So, if you did not have a lawyer until the interview, I would suggest you wait until you hear the result of your interview.
