Legal name change Canadian citizen US green card

I'm sure this question has been answered before but I wasn't able to find it anywhere so I apologize if it a repeat.

I recently (3 months ago) received my green card here in the US. I am wanting to legally change my first and last name but I am unable to figure out how to go about this legally. I am already aware that I will have to pay the fees over again and biometrics to get a new card, change my name in drivers license SSN card etc and I am prepared to deal with that if I could just figure out how to do it in the first place.

To legally change my name in Ontario (birth place) I would have to be there for 12 months, which I have not been so thats not going to work. I do not have plans at this time to become a citizen, so that is also not a solution. My passport expires in Canada in May of this year so I would ideally like to have the change done by that time so that when I apply for a new one I can have it made with the name change as to not complicate travel in the future.

Do I need to get a lawyer? Go back to Canada and try to do it there? I'm just lost as to what to do or even where to start. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

You can legally change your name through the local court system. Contact your local City Hall for details. The web site of your state or county government may also have some information.

After your name change is completed by the court, you'll probably have to change your green card before other US government agencies will process changes for other documents like SSN and DL.
