I'm on F1 currently. I have applied for H1, through my consultant and I have already received my receipt number. I know I cannot start working till Oct 1. Since my school is starting for this semester, I was wondering if I can take a leave of absence from school, as it will save me the tuition fee. In normal circumstances I know that if I take leave of absence, then I have to leave the country in 15 days. But since I have got my H1 B application receipt number, I believe I can stay in the country. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
I'm wondering what will my status be if I'm taking the leave of absence and am staying in US. Will I be out of status from F1? And do I have to go to India to get my visa stamped before I can start working here? I'd really appreciate if I can get some answers.
