In case of a layoff after filing N-400, will there be any problems in the interview like a delay etc.? I understand that being employed is not a requirement for citizenship. In the column for employment we can no longer prove that we are working for the said employer.

No problems as far as I can see, if this were to happen and made you nervous you can go to the interview with the layoff paperwork and tell the situation to the IO, it shouldn't matter. If you think about it, it's pretty much the same as if you change jobs after filing for N-400.

yeah, you should be fine. But i recommend that you dont go back to your home country before your interview......cause then the IO might think that you went back there looking for a job.

citizenship has nothing to do with your current employment. unemployed people are eligible for citizenship as much as those employed.

Yes, it is exactly my case. I lost my job 3 days after the N-400 was accepted. When I came to the interview, USCIS Officer asked me if there were any changes with my employment. I said 'Yes, I am unemployed now'. He asked, 'what do you do now?' - 'Looking for a job'. That was it. No letters, no documents were asked. Don't worry :)
