Lawyer vs going on our own for CPP

Hi !

What is the role of the lawyer in the CPP ? I may sound vague but going through the entire procedure and forms for the CPP, it seems like hiring a lawyer for the final stage of CPP esp. once the case has been created at NVC is a waste of money. Seems like one has to do everything on one's own then why hire a lawyer. Can anyone throw some light on this? Any help in this regard is appreciated.

Thanks and Regards,

You are correct. You do not need a lawyer for CP.
All you have to do is fill form DS-230. Ask questions in this forum if you need further help.
Good luck

You're right. Avoid lawyers. They are unethical and will delay your case unnecessarily. The work to be done is straightforwad for anyone with a high school degree. Avoid lawyers like the plague.

true, if it was not my lawyer for CP i would have gone for interview in December , the guy wasted atleast 2 weeks time which made the difference for me :(

You don't need a lawyer for CP. This forum has more information than the lawyers know in any case. Do it on your own. You will also save atleast 3-4 weeks due to the delays by the lawyers

Thanks Everyone! But will not having a lawyer jeopardize my case ? is the rubber stamp of a law firm important to the NVC and Consulate ?

I agree with others, if you case is clear then no lawyer is needed. I filled all my forms and they just rubber stamped it. To top, I had to correct the mistakes they made copying information from the forms I filled out.
When you hire a lawyer, all you're getting is a paralegal. In my entire processing from labor to cp, I have some 0 involvement of the lawyer (although paperwork was filed through a lawfirm)

challenge1,

Been the "victim" (for a lack of better term) of a**. tardiness and paralegal's incompetncy, I would lean towards the opinions expressed above.

But be very careful. Weigh your options. Is saving a few hundred bucks, worth having issues at the last stage of GC.

Think carefully and make your decision.
