Late Tax Returns not filed by Embassy IRS branch!

Hi,
We finally received notification of our interview date - 20th February - and I am finalizing all the documents for my husband. Last September, I went to the IRS at the Embassy in London to file my tax returns for 2003/2004/2005 as I hadn't been aware that I should have been filing the entire time I lived over here (over 5 years). I have stamped copies of each from the IRS to say that they have received them.

I was reading through some forums and someone posted that if you filed your returns late, you needed to include a transcript of them with copies of the returns. I have just rung the IRS to request copies of the transcripts, only to find out that the returns were never filed!

Has this happened to anyone else? I will be going back to sort this out with the IRS, but if it is not resolved before our interview, will the stamped copies that I have of the original 'filing' of the returns suffice? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
