Hello experts and gurus
I am getting ready to land and I know the below questions have been asked several but I would really appreciate if someone could spare some time and answer these questions I would be greatly obliged. Pls do reply.

1. Should we land by road or by air which is the safest route.
2. Do we have a choice where to land or the place mentioned on the landing papers is where we have to land. Is there a better place for landing.
3. What all do we have to take with us for landing besides the landing papers
4. What is the goods to follow list
5. Is it ok if we take less amount than the one specified on the application
6. What do we have to do after landing to get our PR cards assuming that we would be returning to US in 2-3 days
7. Do we have to surrender our I94 cards while landing or do we keep them with us.
8. How do we carry the amount with us. Can we just take our bank statements?
9. Is there a need to open a bank acct in Canada and what is a SIN card and why do we have to apply for one assuming that we will return to US in 2-3 days.
10. Anything else that we need to know for landing in Canada and for returning back to US
11. My wife has an H1 so should she enter showing her new H1 approval notice with I94 card or she should enter using her old unexpired I94 card from H4 visa.
12. Anything else we need to keep in mind while being with Canadian imm officers while going and with US imm offices while coming back.

Thanks

Your decision. From what I have read it is a lot easier for people who land by air.

You can land anywhere in Canada except Quebec

3. What all do we have to take with us for landing besides the landing papers.
Proof of funds and goods to follow list

4. What is the goods to follow list
If you are planning to get more personal stuff like TV, DVD, car, jewelery etc later on you have to prepare a goods to follow list. This list will be stamped by the customs officer and you will be given a copy. So eventually when you bring the items listed on that list in Canada you will not have to pay any duty on those goods.

5. Is it ok if we take less amount than the one specified on the application
You have to show proof that you have the minimum amount of money required by CIC.

6. What do we have to do after landing to get our PR cards assuming that we would be returning to US in 2-3 days
When you will land the immigration official will ask you to provide an address in Canada where you PR card will be mailed.

7. Do we have to surrender our I94 cards while landing or do we keep them with us.

No idea
8. How do we carry the amount with us. Can we just take our bank statements?

Latest bank statements should be ok but make sure

9. Is there a need to open a bank acct in Canada and what is a SIN card and why do we have to apply for one assuming that we will return to US in 2-3 days.
You dont need it if you are not planning to stay in Canada. SIN card is very important if you want to work in Canada.

10. Anything else that we need to know for landing in Canada and for returning back to US

11. My wife has an H1 so should she enter showing her new H1 approval notice with I94 card or she should enter using her old unexpired I94 card from H4 visa.
I believe that she will have to get H1 visa stamped on her passport from US embassy in Canada.

12. Anything else we need to keep in mind while being with Canadian imm officers while going and with US imm offices while coming back.

Just tell the truth.

Goods to follow list - Is it MUST?

Is submission of "Goods to follow list" is mandatory? What about persons like me who wants to land in Canada and complete PR formalities with Immigration Offfcier and Give canadaina Address to send PR cards and return to USA on the same day?

If you do not submit a "goods to follow" list then when you are moving to canada with your stuff , they will put import duty on it .

Hi Lalita,

Goods to follow list is a facility given by the Canadian immigration officials for people just like you who do not want to immigrate immediately. But like I have mentioned before you will have to make this list and get it stamped by customs official when you land for the first time. When you finally land you will not be charged duty on items on this list.

Hope this helps.

Please dont abuse the system

I am writing in response to the following sentence

" Is submission of "Goods to follow list" is mandatory? What about persons like me who wants to land in Canada and complete PR formalities with Immigration Offfcier and Give canadaina Address to send PR cards and return to USA on the same day?"

Please dont take it personally but it is people like you who are going to make the Canadians stop giving PR and tightening the process. You want to be a Canadian PR and you dont want to spend even a few days there ? If you are going there at least show some pride in the country, take some time and visit it, see what its like etc, after all you are saying you want to be PR of Canada. This going in the morning coming back in the evening sucks and one day believe me this is what is going to lead to tightening of the rules because of the abuse.
Yes most of us in the US are using this as a back up, but can we please not be so blatant about it, can we please take some pride and some ownership in the country that is accepting us. Lets at least stay 3-4 days and get to know what the country looks like.
No offence meant but I have been wanting to say this for a while, and Lalita it is not solely directed against you.

Cant agree with you more. If you read the landing experience of people driving from US you will see that it is becoming more difficult. Canadian immigration officials have become aware of the fact that a lot of people land in Canada stay for a few days and then go back to US.

I recently read on another discussion board that a guy was refused landing because the immigration official did not believe his intention to settle in Canada.
