Landing process

I am planning to land by driving from Buffalo in a rental car. I have the following questions :

1. Is there a US Border control which I need to pass before entering Canada? Do I need to surrender my unexpired I-94 here ( similar to when flying out of US).I have a valid I-94 and H1-B visa expiring in 2009.
Or where exactly I need to surrender my I-94? Is it when I return back to enter US? And then they will issue a new I-94?

2. For the proof of funds,is the latest bank statement enough? Or is it required to actually carry funds in the form of cashier's check, etc.

If someone can provide their recent experience for landing by road driving from Buffalo, it will be very helpful.

Thanks,
SS

--- No need to surrender your I-94 if you plan to return to the US within 30 days. You can use the same I-94 to come back to the US. I understand that your H1B stamp is still valid, but using the same I-94 will save you some time in entering back into the USA.

Hi sreya

Hi Sreya,

We have not fixed the date yet. But sometime in June. Based upon what I read in the forums, looks like it is safe to drive. It only takes 7 hrs from DC. Let me know if you want to travel with us. I am gathering all the information.

Using Rental Car for Landing

1. Does anyone know if there are rental car companies around Buffalo that allow you to rent and drive car across border to Canada?

2. On landing, if you tell Canadian Customs/Immigration officer that you're driving a rental car which means you will go back soon after landing, does that cause any issues?

3. What if there are problems while returning to US? what happens to rental car? Can you drop it off across border in Canada? I may saying so becuase I plan to use AVR and have heard different experiances on using AVR rule to return.

Please advise. Your suggestions are appreciated. Thanks in advance.
