Landing procedure

We received landing papers last week. We are going back to India on first week of March. Date of expiry on the papers is Dec 19th 2002. We are not planning to settle in Canada. Only the reason we applied is just for safety (If we don\'t get job in India we can go to Canada). I know if we don\'t land by Dec 19th our PR expires. Once we landed in Canada before 19th, does it mean we can stay out of the country (Canada) as long as we can and still PR is valid? What is 183 rules? Can some one please let us know?

How long it takes to receive your landing papers started from sending application. I sent my application in November 2001.
