Hi,

Any recent experiences on Landing in canada , and apply for SIN and then immediately returning back to USA. I have canadian Landing papers , and my USA GC is in the final stage(I485). Canadian GC is just a safety backup till the time USA GC is approved.

I have Advanced Parole document (AP). Would the USA immigration question me on the way back as to why I took Canadian Permanant Residence when my USA Green card process is in the final stage? Any recent experiences?

No Problem!

Hello there,

I am exactly like you and had no problem coming back to the US with AP. I landed August 2001.

I hope this is encouraging to you.

Good Luck

Thanks for ur responses...

cligman , did US immigration ask you anything specific about why you have taken Canadian GC while I485 is in process?

No Questions asked!!!!

When I came back, I sat in a waiting room and then after 25 minutes they gave me my passport. Yes, I have the permanent Canadian Stamp on my passport but it is almost like a visitor\'s stamp. Any way, the US doesn\'t care. I did my research before I left and there is no conliflicts at all.

Cligman

Thank you VERY MUCH for your responses. Really appreciate it...
Did they stamp your passport with Canadian Permanant Residency status? I was told that they just attach the landing paper to your passport and you can take it off.. Please clarify..

Also, did you do some research on whether you have to still file for canadian taxes this year , even if you give up canadian residency within 183 days?

Thanks again...

No taxes, only if you have worked.

First, if you did not start working you are not required to pay any canadian taxes. I study in the US (I do not work) and therefore no need to pay taxes.

The stamp says Admitted Until xx/xx/2002. This date is cancelled in pen and next to it the officer wrote "Indefinitely".

Yes, you have to always keep your Landing paper with you when travelling to canada.
