I plan to land in the first week of Oct from India. I intend to be in Toronto for a week's time to complete the formalities. Can anyone help me with the following questions please:

1) I have plans of settling down in Canada sometime in 2008. I understand that I have to be in Canada for 2 out of 5 years after initial landing. Will I have any issues with the time frame I have in mind?

2) While landing I have to show funds amounting to US$20000 - family of four. Do I need to deposit the cashier's cheque or can I take it back after a week's stay in Canada?

3) Do I have to carry cashier's cheque or can I carry cash. I understand each individual is allowed to carry US$10000.

4) How will be the weather in Canada during 1st week of Oct. Will it be too cold for a person from Delhi.

5) Is it easy to find accomodation for a weeks time in Toronto area for a week. Any pointers suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks

1) Not if you satisfy the requirements of 2 yr in 5 yr time.

2) You can take back the money. There is no need to deposit in Canada.

3) Carrying cash while travelling is in general risky. But its upto you.

4) I dont live in Canada right now, but with what I can judge from living in northern US, it would start getting cold, but not unbearable infact even pleasant. Be prepared with winter clothes, jackets. A nice thick sweater plus a jacket should be ok. Dont forget gloves and head cover.

5) It should be easy enough to find accommodation. Try websites like hotwire.com, expedia.com, cheaptickets.com, travelocity.com for reasonable hotel rates.

One question. Have you visited North America before? Do you have any friends or family in Toronto? For most part, you should be able to get around in public transportation ( subway + buses & taxis). If possible you can rent a car to get you around.
