HI Gurus,

I am planning to land next week by car. I would like to drive
there by my own car, but I don't want to import it to Canada, as
the process seems fairly complicated. I plan to go back to the US
after I get my PR card and sell it there. My question is, will there
be any problem if I land by my own car, but don't want to import
it ? I would really appreciate any advice.

ThanX.

No You need not import your car. Make sure prepare list of items like electronic items , jewellery and other valuable items intend take canada on permanent move. These items with their values present at customs .They will sign and acknowdege those items.

You can add any list of items even though you dont have and intend to buy. if items are not in the list you cannot carry them in feature. So act smart.

Good luck and nice trip

Some ppl in another thread told me that sometimes they'll
try to force you to import the car. I'm just confused as to what's
the proper procedure if I just want to take my car for the
landing and then take it back to the US and sell it there
afterwards.

Any wisdom will be greatly appreciated.

ThanX.

there is no procedure.
you just have to tell them that you absolutely can not register your car in canada no matter what they say. tell them you'll drive your back to the US as soon as feasible and sell it.

i am not sure if this is a set "procedure" but after i had told them that there was no way i was going to register my car, they wrote down my car information on a yellow receipt. they gave the original to me and kept a copy for themselves. this receipt pretty much said that i could use this car for a month in canada and if a cop stopped me during that timeframe, i was supposed to show him this receipt to avoid any problem.

hope this helps.
