Landing and coming back to US

Hi guys,

Here is the situation

1- I am in US since 2000 on H1-B and my family members are on h4.
2- I have received my landing papers for Canada's permanent residence.
3- My H1-B is valid but the visa on my passport is expired. I sent it for revalidation during the days the laws were being changed so that Pakistani passport holders are required to go to Pakistan for revalidation. The result was that they put a stamp on my visa that says "Cancelled without prejudice" and asked me to get it validated from Pakistan.
4- I have to land in Canada before April 28, 2007 and need to get back to US.

I have been told that if you are permanent resident in Canada, you can get your H1-B revalidated at US consulate in Canada. My first question is, how valid that information is? I am also told that it takes three weeks to get a PR card in Canada. My second question is, if I go to US consulate for revalidation, do they require you to bring your PR card? My employer is not willing to give me a leave for three weeks and there's no way I can stay in Canada for three weeks just waiting for the PR card at this time.

Your help to answer the questions will greatly be appreciated.

I am planning on visiting Canada in the middle of March. I am from Pakistan as well with an expired passport but valid I-94. I am planning on using Automatic Visa Revalidation (AVR) which allows you to return to U.S with an expired visa from Canada or MExico within 30 days. Remember if you apply for visa extension in Canada, you will not be able to use AVR
