I'm on H-1B visa and currently taking 3 classes in college (part-time). I plan to go back to my home country for good right after I'm done with Spring semester, which is in May. Unfortunately, my company heard about my plan and secretly prepare to lay me off soon. I have no problem with that since I'm leaving them in 3 1/2 months anyway, but my concern is about how long I will be allowed to stay in the country unemployed. I wish to complete spring semester and get a degree first before the immigration send me back home. I know that I'll lose my status right when I get laid-off, but are there anyway i can negotiate with the immigration regarding my classes in school? The lay off announcement may come anytime so I'm worried.
