Hi all,
I am currently working on a H1B VISA but will be laid of ('Reduction in Work Force') going on... which means that I will be jobless per 31-JAN-2013
However, I am pretty sure I will be getting an offer for a new position at a different company before 31-JAN-2013. (so basically, in the next few weeks)
I have two questions:
1) If I do not get the offer, when will I need to leave the country? I understand that there is a 2 week 'grace' period, meaning I should have an exit stamp in my passport by 14-FEB-2013?
2) If the new company does offer a new position, then what exactly should I take in mind? How long does it take to 'transfer' the VISA (I know there is no such thing really, but still it is referred to as a 'transfer'). I understand that the new company should notify USCIS after which they will send an acknowledgement that they received the notification, which is good enough to start working at the new company... is this right?
Thanks much for your info, obviously, these type of situations are a little nerve wracking really so any input is helpful!
