Hi,
I have an H-1B visa and I'm about to start the process for the green card.
I have a degree from an university in my country; it has already been evaluated to an MS degree in Computer Science.
I've only been here for 8 months now. Are there any downsides to starting the Green Card process this early?
We've been skimming through the forum (me and my wife) these days and noted various details and subtleties. Is there a roadmap to the whole process, something like a "process graph"? [If not, maybe we can start it and maintain it as a file in the forum, just like other files are maintained. I could probably start it and each of us could then participate to enhancing it.]
I worked for my current employer from my home country for more than two years, prior to getting the H-1B visa. Is it acceptable to consider the period as experience for my application?
I read in a different post: "My ads were posted before my PWD too. My lawyer didn't think it would be an issue. However, I did notice my job order was posted after my lawyer got my PWD." (Prevailing Wage Determination)
Are there some gotchas to the PWD process? Is there a way for us to control the PWD? If so, is it better to do the PWD before posting ads? After? (I guess DOL fully controls this aspect, but I feel it's worth asking)
Do my lawyer and my employer have a role to play as far as the PWD is concerned?
Are there different conditions as far as the whole process is concerned, depending on the home country? For instance, do Eastern Europe, China, etc. have a separate limit alloted, or is there no difference among these?
Does anyone know how much advertising costs, on the average, in the New York State?
We will be meeting our lawyer for the first time this weekend, so it would be great to be as informed as possible.
Thank You,
Mihai
