In the I-485 Approval Notice ( I had courtsey copy) It was mentioned that you should go to LA INS office at Los Angeles Street with passport, two photograph and I-94 copies etc between 6 AM to 12 AM mon-fri.
Went on thursday, reached around 8AM, took 1:45 hours to get into the main hall. Line was not that long. When reached the window, I was told that "there is no more tickets left for this kind of case. We close at 12 today".
So thursday is Not a good day for LA INS office, they close at 12AM. All other days they close at 3 PM.
Asked about the appointment but IIO imformed me that there are no appointement in LA office. Only single line. She mentioned that when they reach to office at 6 AM, there is already a line there.
so on 09/27 the friday, I had to getup early and reached INS office by 5:15 AM, parked on the Temple Street. $6:60 flate charge for the day. ( From 101 South, Take Right on Los Angeles street, left on Temple. cross one traffic signal and parking on right). You can park at Los Angeles mall in front of INS building as well.
I was happy to reach that early but when I approached INS building, was no more happy as there is already a line of more than 200-300 people standing in line. Looks like some folks sleep there or come so early. You can see sleeping bags with them Only couple of DESIs in the line. I was concerned that I'm in the right line, called one of my known who recently got passport stamped. He confirmed that there is only one line there but he mentioned that they are going to refer to 2nd floor but In my case they didn't.
Well, line started moving at 6 AM, get into main hall ( room 1001) at around 10 AM !!!
Got the ticket at the window ( you get green ticket ). She stamped something on my hand too. They have green, yellow, pink and Red tickets. Green means GREEN
There was only 7 more pople before my ticket to be processed when I was in the main hall.
After around 1 hour, my number was called.
Officer already had some print out with him ( may be he checked the system already for the case ). Asked for my passport, two photos. I was asked just four questions: your full name, fathers name, mothers name, country born in.
Took the finger print at two places and signature two places.
Stamped the passport with 551.
Congratulations. You'll get your Card in 2-10 months.
He took only 5 minutes. Didn't ask for any I-94 or EAD/AP. Though I took all of them with me.
Hope this will help you guys.
If you dont' want to waste another day : Go as early as possible, and avoid going on thursday.
Good Luck.
