C Chris Brunot Registered Users (C) Feb 7, 2005 #2 If your friend comes on L-2, he/she can work anywhere, but his/her status will depend upon the status of the principal L-1 applicant. However, in case H-1 is used, it will be an independent status which can be extended upto a maximum six years (7+ years in certain circumstances). I would say it is better to be on an independent H-1 status. Since your friend already holds an H-1 visa, he/she can enter the US on H-1.
