L2 visa - work permit

Hi,

I know that I am eligible to obtain a L2 visa as my husband has a L1b visa, and is currently working in the States. I did hear that a person that has a L2 visa can get an employment authorisation permit for 2 years. I have also heard though that your dependent has to be on a L1a visa for you to be able to work rather than a L1b visa. Please can you tell me if this is true?

Many thanks.

Spouses of L1a and L1b can apply for employment authorization (EAD) when in L2 status. There is no such thing as a 2 year limit, rather the EAD has to be renewed every few years. Also it is only valid as long as the original L1 status holder remains in status.
It is a relatively simple process that you can do without an attorney's help. Both online and offline options are available. Please check the USCIS web site.
