L2 expiration date

Hi. I have just arived on an L2 visa and applied for EAD. However, I already have a job opportunity that I'd like to take. What I'd like to know is:
1) How long does EAD take to be issued?
2) Do I simply receive the document by mail?
3) Am I allowed to start working only after receiving the actual document?
4) Does EAD have an expiration date? If it does, can it be renewed before it expires so I don't have to stop working at the company?

Thanks a lot.

1) How long does EAD take to be issued?

Depends on your location. Check processing times on this web site for ead processing status. In theory, if you do not receive your ead in 90 days from application, the local uscis office will give you an interim ead valid for 240 days. But I am not sure if this is being done everywhere.

2) Do I simply receive the document by mail?

Yes.

3) Am I allowed to start working only after receiving the a
ctual document?

Yes.

4) Does EAD have an expiration date? If it does, can it be renewed before it expires so I don't have to stop working at the company?

Yes. Eads expire in a year or sooner if your visa petition expires sooner. Best to apply for a renewal 6 months before expiry. If at any time you do not have a valid ead or if you are in between eads, you cannot work during this period. So it is very important not to get into that situation.
