L2+EAD got H1 approved

My friend is currently on L2 Visa with EAD. He applied for H1-B quota earlier this year and got an approval. He is not sure if the employer applied with any category of "Change of Status" or not. He does not intend to work with the employer going forward.

Can he still continue to be on L2-Visa and hold his EAD status after October 1st 2008 ? Does the H1-B petition approval impact him in any way ?
 
If a change of status was not requested, your friend won't be able to begin H-1B employment unless going outside the U.S. and getting an H-1B visa stamping first.

It is not difficult to find out if a change of status was requested. Get a copy of H-1B approval notice USCIS issued and the employer received. If there is a tear-off portion of his replacement I-94 at the bottom of the notice, his status was changed.
