L1b to TN status change

Hi,

I'm Canadian citizen currently working in US on L1-B visa. There is
another company that's interested in hiring me. Is the following
scenario possible:
Can I go to the border and apply for TN visa without giving up my L1
visa at least until I'm sure that I will get the TN? I'm asking this
to make sure that I don't give up my L1 status and get rejected a TN
visa (though rarely, this is in fact possible, I know Canadians who
have not been given TN). If I get TN, when my L1 stops to be valid?
Also, if I get a TN eventually and apply for H1-B in half an year,
does the time I spent in US on L1 count against the H1-B visa
validity?
Thanks in advance.

Same boat...

I am interested to see if you got an answer to your question, or if you have gone through with the procedure.

I am in the same boat and will be going to the border next week to try to get my TN. I also want to keep my L1B for at least 2 weeks so that I can give my current employer a 2 week notice before going to the other job.

If anyone has any experience or answers on whether L1B and TN can be held at the same time, can they please post?

Thanks

Hello, were you able to find out any answers on if you can stay on L1-B and TN at the same time? I am in the same boat and would like to give two weeks notice to my current employer once I get a TN. Please please do reply if you have had any experience on this.

Thanks,
Nehal.

You can't be in 2 statuses at the same time. The TN status would void your L1b.

On the other hand....if you were on a TN with company A, then you could have gotten a second TN for Company B. Then you could have given your notice.

It seems like you'll have to take the chance and get the TN, thus voidingyour L1b.

Good luck.

You can't be in TN and L visa at the same time. Curious George is correct.
Also YES the time spent on the L-1 affects time left on the H-1B. EX. If you spend 1 year on L visa lets say you will have 5 years on the H-1B. The only way to reset the time spent is to leave the country for a year. That resets the clock. You will most likely have a Green Card way before the time expires.
