L1b to H1b Urgent...please help

I came to USA on L1 on 02-Jan-04 and i am working for company A .
Company B sponsered my H1b visa which got approved in Aug -04 with a start date of 01 Dec-04.
I travelled India in oct-04 and got my L1b stamped with company A on Oct-04 and came back US in Oct-04.

Questions:

1)Can i work for Company B directly now with out the H1b visa on passport .. I am keeping in mind that i dont have same i-94 which was got extended while applying H1b with Company B .

2)What is my current status L1b or H1b??

@@@My Guess you cannot work for Company B as you entered in to usa with L1. and you dont have a H1 visa on your passport and your papers not filed as status change
YOu might be wondering your friends did the same thing then why cant I??
But in your friends case while they are in usa they might have transfered their status change L1 to H1 so they get H1 based i-94 in that case .. they are fine for work .. But not *YOU*
