L1A and GC

Hi,

My friend is on L1A and is working since last 3 years for an Indian big 5 company in USA having offices all over USA. Since, his company do not apply/sponser GC for it's US based employees eventually they will be going back. Will it be possible to apply and get GC without any knowledge/information to the employer. I mean, does employer needs to provide any other information for processing his GC. All the pay stubs and Tax filings are available with my friend. He would still want to work for the Indian company in US but doesn't want undergo the hastles of getting visa denials at Indian consulates for any reason whatsoever. Also he would like to have the freedom of quitting the job if he is not satisfied with that company.

GC has to be sponsored by an employer and cannot be applied for independently (unless he qualifies for EB1 under extra-ordinary ability and has won international prizes).
