Hi,

I am on L1B which will expire in October 2009 after completing 5 years.
I want to apply for an H1-B in April 2009 with my company (A) or another company (B). Will I get an extra 6 years or only 1 year if I stay in the same company (A) or if I work for a different company (B)?
Thanks,
Juju

You will NOT get an extra 6 years. You need to leave US for one year, then you can get H1-B for 6 years.

You may also have problem to get H1B in the same company. There are some major differences between the H-1B visa and the L1 visa. The H-1B visa program allows U.S. employers to hire highly educated foreign professionals on a temporary basis who provide specialized or unique skills/expertise and relieve temporary U.S. worker shortages.
