My brother worked in USA on L1 visa through Company A from Oct 2004 to April 2006. In April 2006 , Company B applied for his H1 and the start date is Oct 2006. From May 2006 to till date, he is working for Company A in India. Next week (May 2007) he will be coming to USA on L1 visa to work for Company A.
Can he work for 2 months on L1 visa for Company A and then change status to H1 visa to work for Company B?
What is the procedure to change status from L1 to H1?

He can work until, he gets his H1 approved and beyond
What is the procedure to change status from L1 to H1?
As he will be travelling during his H1 process, If he has applied for H1 COS... it will have query and he will have to go through normal H1 process. Once his normal H1 is approved. Whenever he is ready to take the job with H1 company, he will have to go out of USA and get the H1 stamped on his PP and comeback to US and start working with H1 company.

I appreciate your response. My brother's H1 (normal H1 approval. Not COS H1 process)was approved by Oct 2006. Is there any other option for him(like submitting forms) other than travelling out of USA and coming back to join H1 company?

I think its possible to use normal H1 and use it for COS. But not sure 100%. Please check with lawyer

How long does it take for L1 to H1 change of status process?Provided currently working on a valid L1 visa and has an approved H1 with 2006 start date.

First not sure if its possible. But if it can be done - should not take more then 60-90 days
