L1 to H1

I am holding a valid L1 visa(Blanket) from company A. My L1 visa was stamped on 3rd August 2006. I am scheduled to travel to US on L1 visa sometime in the month of September. Meanwhile company B has filed for my H1 visa and my petition has been approved by INS.

My question is-
- in case I travel to US on L1 visa, and take up a job at company B on H1, can I start immediately with the new job or do I need to travel back to India, get my H1 stamped and then go back to US to take up the job.
- I am booking an interview date for H1 visa stamping. The earliest date that I am getting is January 17th, 2007. In case I am in the US during that time and am not able to attend the visa interview in India, does that impact in any way my H1 visa. Can I cancel the appointment in India and appear either in Mexico or Canada.
- Is it poosible to change the status from L1 to H1 while I am in the US, without going out of US.
- In case I get an appointment for H1 visa before I travel to US on L1, does it impact my L1 visa. Is the L1 visa cancelled at that time.

for 2nd and 4th questions,

- Two days before your visa appointment also, you can cancel it. That will not impact your H1.

- If you attend H1 visa interview before coming to US. Your L1 visa will be cancelled. Only H1 will remain.
