L1 to H1 Transfer

CASE:
I came to USA through Company X in 2003 on H1-B Visa (Valid from 17th Aug 2003 till 17th July 2006 ). I stayed in USA on H1-B till 15th June 2006 . After that my company extended my stay in USA on L1-B. At present I am here in USA on L1-B Visa.
QUERY:
Can my Previous H1-B be transferred to other company and extended for the remaining duration of H1-B tenure?

you can apply for a new H1-B from the same company or from a different company. you will not be subject to the cap. the new H1-B will be good for the remaining duration of the H1-B tenure. Essentially this action is a transfer, but legally it is a new application.

Now i have another question:

What would happen to my current L1 Status? Will the Status change to H1 from the date petition got approved or remain L1 till the time i join company Y on H1?
