L1 to H1 transfer *URGENT*

HI,

I am L1 visa holder. I intent to change my company and the other company is ready to process H1 visa for me. Do I have to travel back to my country for the stamping process ? Also, how much time does it take generally for this transfer to take place ?

You need the stamping only if you wish to travel otherwise just the approval notice is sufficient. However if the approval notice is issued without a I-94 then you will have to go out to get the H1-B stamping done and reenter to get a valid I-94.
