L1 to H1 after 5/6 years of L1 allowed?

Hello,

my fiance's L1 is expiring and she would have been on this for 5 or 6 years. Her company's HR department is sponsoring her for an H1 saying this would allow her to stay for another 6 years.

I'm curious - things I've read on this board lead me to believe that you can't stay more than 6 years... so how is this possible?

I was wondering if I could get input from people.

h1 to l1

My brother is on L1 here for the past two years with employer A. His L1 is expiring in Oct 2004.

He is looking for a new job on H1 with employer B.

He is planning on applying for L1 to H1 change of status.

1. If the H1 gets approved - can he stay in the US or should he travel to his home country to get stamping?

2. Is there any way he can travel to Canada or Mexico to get his H1 stamping.
