L1 Eligibility

Hello,

I have been reading a lot about L1 Visa's and eligibility. I am a Canadian citizen and I work for a multi national company that has 10 offices across the globe including United States. I have been working for them for a over a year as a Technical Manager however in my previous role in a different company I had the some job functions, I worked for them for 3 years. I have 5 years of relevant experience in my field.

I do not have a degree but some IT Certifications. I have been looking at an opportunity with my company to be based out of US. I am currently in Canada. My question is; what is the possibility of me qualifying for an L1 if i do not have a degree.

I do not supervisor any employee's however I do manage all the technical functions of that department. Any insight on this would be appreciated.

Unlike H-1B, whether or not you have a college degree is mostly irrelevant for individual qualification of L-1A/L-1B, especially L-1A. However, you do not have supervising anyone either, which doesn't help a lot. In L-1A there is a "fuction manager" who manages a critical function of the company's operation but does not supervise anyone. It all comes down to individual situation (and you need to consult an immigration attorney in the end) but it looks like there is a chance that you will be qualified for either L-1A or L-1B, provided that all other requirements for L-1 are met, such as existence of the "corporate relationship" between the company you are currently working for and the U.S. company you are going to work for.

Thanks for the quick response. The company in US is a child/branch of our main office. It has the same company name/owners, so in other words "Company A Canada", "Company A USA", "Company A Germany", etc.

I had a question regarding "1 year with the employer within the past 3 years". I have traveled to the US multiple times for business meetings (not for the same position but same company". Does this time get deducted? What if these trips were personal instead of business, does it count the same way?
