L1 (Company A) to H1 (Company A to B)

I am working on L1 for Company A since 2008. I have H1B pitition (since 2007, but not stamped) with same company A.

Can I join Company B using my existing the H1B petition (if employer A doesn't have any objection ??)
Do i need to go back to India to change to H1B?

You will need a new H-1B petition for Company B - your current one is only valid for Company A. Once you file your Company B H-1B petition, you can request change of status so that you will not have to leave the U.S.

Also, Company A does not have to consent to this transfer.
