L1-B to H1-B change of status

I have been working in the US for the past 2 years on a L1B visa with company X. My L1B I-94 expires on 15 May 2005. Company X has already applied for an extension of my L1B petition for another 2 years. The extension is still under process and should be received shortly.

I have now received an employment offer from Company Y effective 01 Oct 2005. Company Y intends to file my H1B in April 2005.

My question is :

a) Is it possible for Company Y to request a change of status from L1b to H1B effective 01 Oct 2005 (considering my I-94 expires in May 2005 and ny L1B extension application is currently being processed) ?

b) If not is here any other way in which I can have my status changed from L1-B to H1-B without having to leave US :)

Would greatly appreciate your views and advice on the above
 
There should be no problem changing status. You will be receiving your L-1B extension shortly. Company Y can file H-1B petition for you as soon as the filing begins in April with the start date of the work being October 1st.
