L-1B criteria query

Hi; I'd really appreciate some advice on the following three points:

1. After graduating university, I joined a U.S. based large multi-national insurance broker in London. I have been at the company a year now, and have been offered an unpaid 4 month secondment at the Boston office in the U.S. I'm sure HR will already know, as dozens of people move each way across the pond each year, but which visa willI require??


2. There is a good chance that I may be offered a long term post out there at the end of the three months. I believe that as I've been at the company a year, and have gained specialised experience in the London - to - US insurance industry, I'm probably eligible for an L-1B. Given that limited info, and the magnitude of my employer in the US, my questions are:

a. Whether I'm likely to be eligible for an L-1B?
b. If so, how soon into the 4 month secondment should I apply for the visa, so that the transition can be seamless and I don't have to spend lots of time back in the UK?

3. If I wish to stay in the U.S., and I'm offered employment by one of their competitors, which visa would I be eligible for, how succesful am I likely to be, and how long might that take? It is highly likely that it would be a large multi-national too.

Andy,
You are correct, depending upon your position the L1B is what you are most likely eligible for (L1A is for executive/managers). If you were to be hired by a competitor you would have to adjust to and H1B. This would be best as it is easier to get a Green CArd.
