Hello, I am looking for advice on the following situation. I came to the U.S. a number of years ago on a J1 student visa subject to Section 212(e) home country residence requirement. In stead of going back to my home country I immigrated to Canada where I became a citizen earlier this year. I have then transferred from the Canadia subsidiary of my employer to their HQ in the States. Now, my question is whether my employer can now convert my L1A to GC orthe old 212(e) requirement would still need to be fulfilled by going back to my original home country? What would happen if I sever my citizenship ties with my first home country and just keep my Canadain citizenship? Would appreciate your thoughts/experiences in this regard. Thanks in advance.
