kid's passport question

I applied for my passport with my certificate of citizenship paper. They took it with my application. How can I appaly for passport for my kids? Do I have to wait until I have my passport? thanks in advance for any suggestion.

You could have filed these together and the postal worker would have made a copy and sent them out separately.

sanjoseaug20 is right, now it is too late for filing together so you'll have to wait for your certificate to come back and then apply for your kid.

No, it won't work. Department of State wants original and then it returns it to you. Copy would have worked if you had applied for both passports concurrently at the post office. In that case the postal worker could have made a copy and "notarized" it. Now you'll have to wait. Are you in a hurry? When did you apply for your passport? You should get your certificate back in a few weeks at most.
